The table provides information about the percentages of british households owned different consumer durables between 1972 and 1983.

Over the whole period owning consumer durables rate increased, except the data for washing machine where it decreased in 1979.

As is clear from the table that, the most popular household technology was TV, being owned on average by more than 95 % of british families. The percentage of families had vacuum cleaner increased gradually from 87% in 1972 to 95 % in 1982. The same trend can be seen in the usage of refrigirators, but with significant increase by 21 % over the given period. Despite 1 % decrease in 1979, the figure for families provied with washing machines saw an increase of 14 %  over a 12-year perid from 66 % in 1972. The most noticeable growth was seen in the percentages of houeseholds with telephones and central heating, where numbers nearly doubled. Coming to video and dishwasher owning, they were introduced later period with 18 %in 1983 and 3 % in 1978 accordingly.

The diagram indicates how the percentage of consumer durables possessed in Britain was over a period of 11 years from 1972 to 1983.

 Overall, Britain saw a moderate growth in the percentage of households with a range of consumer durables for the given period.

 In 1972, television and vacuum cleaner were the most common types of household items. For the rest of the period, however, there were vacillations for television and vacuum cleaner, constituting 98% and 95% in 1983 respectively. The proportion of central heating ownership increased from 37% in 1972 to 64% in 1983, with adding at least 3% each year except for 1975 when there was only a 1 % increase. The percentage of households with refrigerators went up by 21% over the same period and of those with washing machine by 14%. Households with video recorder and dishwasher constituted 18% and 5% in 1983 respectively. Although, the percentage of telephone was lower at the beginning of the period, it then saw the greatest increase, rising from 42% in 1972 to 77% in 1983.
