The diagram below shows how the Australian Bureau of Meteorology collects up-to-the-minute information on the weather in order to produce reliable forecasts.

The picture depicts the process of producing the latest reliable weather forecast by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

Overall, there are four main stages in the procedure, beginning with incoming information and culminating in broadcasting.

At the first stage, incoming information can be received by three apparatus, namely satellite, radar or drifting buoy. Satellite transfers captured photos or synoptic charts directly to analysis and forecasting stage or to radar for further processing. In turn, radar proceeds to deliver the data to the second stage as a form of radar screen or synoptic chart. Alternatively, drifting buoy can also send synoptic chart to analysing and forecasting step. After the completion of the second phase known as analysis and forecasting, the data is directed to the computer in order to prepare the broadcast.   At the last stage, the ready broadcast is announced by three media sources: TV, radio or phones as the form of TV or radio news or recorded announcement.
